Investor Appeals for Justice Against YY Capital Chairman Over Alleged Fraud

(Phnom Penh) – An investor and shareholder of YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has asked the Ministry of Justice of Cambodia to intervene in a case involving the company’s Chairman, Yamada Taihei, who stands accused of serious financial misconduct and breaches of trust.

The investor alleges that Yamada, a Japanese national, misused his position to divert company funds for personal gain and make unauthorized business decisions. Preliminary reports indicate that approximately USD 4 million may have been misappropriated.

According to the complaint, Yamada allegedly inflated real estate prices, created fictitious business transactions, forged documents, and arranged loans exceeding USD 7 million under the names of major corporations. Some of the funds were reportedly transferred abroad to accounts linked to Yamada’s spouse.

The letters also claim that Yamada established multiple shell companies in Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan, appointing nominees as representatives while controlling all financial operations himself.

In Cambodia, Yamada and his associates have already faced charges in at least two criminal cases, with assets and bank accounts frozen. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities in several other countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, are reportedly reviewing related allegations of embezzlement, breach of trust, and money laundering.

The investor urges Cambodian courts and authorities to conduct thorough investigations, ensure justice, and hold those responsible accountable. The letters also raise concerns about possible interference from influential figures, including within the judiciary, which could compromise evidence, intimidate witnesses, or allow the accused to avoid accountability.
